Here we are! Our first instalment of FAV’D. For those of you who missed my previous post about FAV’D, please do go check it out to have a better understanding of what this is.
Anyways, since I arrived on a Saturday night, I didn’t get to do much that day. The next day, my friends and I went to see the Chinese New Years Parade put on by Vancity bank (a week late, but meh). The parade was alright, but fun nonetheless. We were all starving, so we head out to my first proper meal in Vancouver after many many years.
EDIT: Clear one a day has proven to be impossible for me… I’ll post them ASAP… :’D
As some of you may know (the people that read my Nutella Cheesecake Cup post), I recently took a trip to Vancouver. During my stay in Vancouver, I stayed at Shiina Mint’s house, who doesn’t have wireless internet, so I couldn’t update the blog as often as I would like to. Also because I was out from early morning to late at night. But fear not! That is why this series will exist!
I shall call it… Food Across Vancouver with Daniel, or FAV’D (because we’re totally ignoring the w)
Every day(No, Daniel. You suck, so every day is not possible), I will have a new entry for a restaurants I’ve ate in Vancouver in chronological order. I will also talked about I’ve been doing in Vancouver up until the restaurant I am reviewing that post.
As I post a new entry about the restaurant, I will update this post with links for the restaurant as this post will act as the master post.
Here is the list of the restaurants that I will be writing about:
1. Ramen Jinya
4. Shiro Sushi
6. Italian Kitchen
8. Banana Leaf
11. 生活小館 (Estea)
12. Guu Garden
13. G-Men/Nanchuu Izakaya
15. 好彩小廚 (Good Choice Restaurant)
I hope you will enjoy this mini-series and continue to follow my adventures in Vancouver!
The other day, my honey surprised me with a reservation in downtown at 7 pm. The reservation was not a surprise, but the sudden dine-out was, as we usually decide on a day beforehand if we are going somewhere nice. Needless to say, I was rather excited and when I asked what sort of food we will be having, he replied, “Um.. their people use hand gestures a lot.” It was a funny hint, but I knew instantly there’d be Italian food on my plate.
The restaurant he took me was in Gastown and called Al Porto. It it at 321 Water Street Vancouver B.C. V6B 1B8. Check out their website for more info!
(Photo taken from their website.)
Al Porto is somewhat hidden in an alleyway and you’ll need to step on cobblestone before entering, but once you do, you’ll instantly feel like you are in Italy. The interior is warm and inviting, with a cozy feeling – much like someone’s home, except it is super spacious (maybe a rich Italian person’s home?). Click here if interested in pictures.
The last backlogged Winterlicious post is finally here! For my last Winterlicious of this season, I went to a restaurant called Valens. It’s located at 19 Baldwin Street Toronto, ON M5T 1L1.
I arrived 15 minutes early, and I was also the only one in the restaurant (excluding the employees). I studied the menu while waiting for my friends to arrive since I got nothing else better to do. The menu, like EDO’s, was wrinkled and used, but I didn’t mind that because the menus were temporary ones anyways. They also pre-poured water for every table even if they were empty; I guess they know they’re popular or something. The restaurant was really hot, and my friends said the same thing as they walked into the restaurant. It was also made apparent from all the ice in the water melting at record speed. Another album has been uploaded onto Mintea’s Cafe Adventures FB page. Due to the photos being captioned in a rush, some sentences may make no sense, and the ideas may be vague. Any questions though, feel free to ask!

This album features (so far!) :
– Urban Tea Merchant
– T Room
– Cafe Deux Soleils

You will be notified should I add more to the same album or if I upload a new one.
Remember, it’s good to treat yourself once in a while (but not TOO much like I do or you might become broke)! :)
